Baldock to Ashwell circular loop. 12 miles (19km) duration: 6hrs.

Summary: Setting off from Baldock train station, we head towards the village of Ashwell. The village is the site of the Ashwell springs, a series of freshwater springs, which form the source of the River Cam. Heading upto Ashwell, we will pass through Ivel spring nature reserve, (also with springs), farmland and take in views of the rolling hills of North Hertfordshire. The main highlight is the Ashwell springs, whose aquifers are one of a few that are a source of one of worlds rarest habitats...the chalk stream. Only 200 chalk rivers are known globally, 85% of which are found in the UK in southern and eastern England and provide an abundance of wildlife. We will have our lunch stop at the Ashwell springs. Afterwards we will meander through the village for a pub stop at the Bushel and Strike. From there we will make our way back to Baldock passing by Arbury banks an iron age hill fort and Newnham airfield along the way. We will head back to Baldock train station where the walk will end.
