The Appeasement and Acquiescence of the West

For decades, Western societies have reconciled themselves to an increasingly contradictory narrative. We are told that Islam is fundamentally peaceful and compatible with liberal democracy, even as overwhelming empirical evidence suggests otherwise. From systematic gender subjugation and apostasy laws to widespread support for Sharia across the Muslim world, the gap between the stated ideals of Islam’s defenders and the lived reality in Islamic societies has become impossible to ignore. This talk aims to examine this contradiction with clarity. Rather than accept the endless apologetics and rebranding exercises of Western political and media elites, we ask the uncomfortable questions: What does Islam actually teach, what do Muslims actually believe, and why have Western governments and institutions abandoned any honest reckoning with these questions in favour of appeasement? Drawing on data from major research institutions, accounts from those inside Islamic societies, and the actions of Islamic regimes across the globe, this talk traces how the West has gradually surrendered its intellectual integrity and political will in the face of religious absolutism. At a moment when Western civilisation confronts simultaneous crises of confidence, demographic transformation, and institutional capture, understanding how we arrived at this impasse is essential. Our guest speaker Amir Pars was born in the Islamic Republic of Iran moving at the age of 8 with his family as asylum seekers to Sweden where Amir spent his formative years.
